Aamir Khan’s much awaited ‘Dangal’ hit the theatres two days ago. The film which is based on the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari had a lot of expectations riding on it. And it sure turned out to be a viewer’s delight. The audience is loving the film and is applauding not just Aamir's performance, but are also in all praise for the performance of Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
However, only a few people noticed that the film completely forgot to talk about another champion from the family, Vinesh Phogat. Vinesh is Mahavir Singh Phogat’s adopted daughter who’s father Rajpal passed away several years ago. She is no less of an achiever and has represented India internationally as a wrestler and has brought back laurels for the nation.
She represented India in the women's freestyle 48 kg category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and ended up winning the gold medal. At the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, Vinesh won the bronze medal in the women's freestyle 48 kg category. At the 2015 Asian Championships in Doha, Vinesh won the silver medal. In the qualifying rounds held in Istanbul, to the 2016 Rio Olympics, she won the finals and qualified to the Olympics in the process.
At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Vinesh reached the Quarter Finals however lost to Sun Yanan of China owing to a knee injury.
