Flaxseeds is one of the old crops that is known for its
numerous health benefits. From
hair care to beauty, flaxseed is also used widely for effective weight management. The reddish-brown colour seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and fibre that can also equally improve digestive system, lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure for diabetes. What makes it more popular is its availability and inexpensive price point which makes it an excellent food choice that can be added to your diet. However, these health benefits can only be achieved if flaxseeds are consumed moderately. Overconsumption of flaxseed can cause several side effects that everyone should know about.
Too much of flaxseed can affect your bowel movements can cause diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome. Consuming flaxseeds is also not ideal for people suffering from colon complications. In the worse case, it can lead to intestinal blockage and turn fatal for Scleroderma patients. Similarly, the fibre-rich flaxseed can also block the digestive tract, if not consumed with ample liquid.
Flaxseed is not recommended for pregnant ladies or women who are trying to conceive as it can induce menstrual cycles from its estrogen-like qualities. It can also mess up the menstrual cycle.
Overeating flaxseeds can lead to allergies and irritations. If you happen to notice itching, swelling, redness, nausea or dizziness after munching these seeds, you must stop immediately.
People under medications, supplements and suffering from a heart condition can also avoid ingesting flaxseed as it can prevent the absorption of certain kinds of medicines. It’s best to consult a doctor before you add flaxseed to your meals.
