Maintaining a healthy scalp will allow your hair to grow long, strong and luscious. So instead of spending your next paycheck at a salon trying to boost your hair growth, we suggest you try out these invigorating, detoxifying and completely DIY scalp scrubs out. These are our favourites.
02/11Jojoba oil and brown sugar scrub
Jojoba oil and brown sugar are a match made in heaven if you want to protect your hair from damage and provide your tresses with loads of nourishment.A few spoons of jojoba oil, brown sugar, salt and lemon juice are all you need to make this scrub. Apply this treatment on your hair a few times a month to get the most out of it.

03/11Sugar, olive oil and honey scrub
For this treatment, you will need two tablespoons each of brown sugar, lemon juice, and jojoba oil. Combine the ingredients well before you add a spoonful of salt to the mix. Leave the treatment on your hair for at least half an hour before you wash it off with a mild shampoo. This exfoliating scrub works to get rid of dandruff and strengthen hair follicles.

04/11Salt, coconut oil and honey scrub
To make this scrub, you will need a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of coconut oil. You will also need a teaspoon of honey and half a cup's worth of salt. Mix all the ingredients well before you apply it all over your scalp and hair. Wash it off with a mild shampoo after 10 minutes. This scrub contains anti-fungal properties and loads of nourishment to get rid of excess oil and promote hair growth.

05/11Deep cleanse - Salt and Olive Oil scrub
If you want your hair to grow in a healthy way, then this is the scrub for you. The combo of salt and olive oil also works to remove dandruff without leaving your scalp dry. Olive oil contains fatty acids that protect the hair from damage and provides it with a lot of moisture. To make the scrub, add a few spoons each of sea salt, olive oil and lemon juice. Once you've applied the mixture, wash it off well and use shampoo to finish the job.
06/11To remove dandruff - Clarifying Shampoo and Baking Soda scrub
Adding a bit of baking soda to your shampoos once in a while can remove the build-up of products and oil from your scalp. You can also add tea tree oil to this mixture as it is naturally antifungal and antiseptic, which helps get rid of dandruff and bacteria. Give yourself a nice scalp massage for a few minutes to get the maximum benefit and then wash thoroughly.
07/11Exfoliate your scalp - Brown Sugar and Oatmeal scrub
The combination of brown sugar and oatmeal provides moisture while gently exfoliating the scalp. It also increases hair circulation to the hair follicle. All you have to do is mix brown sugar, ground oatmeal and hair conditioner (two tablespoons each) and apply a scoop of it on your hair and thoroughly scrub it into your scalp. Make sure to remove any styling products in your hair and give it a good wash.
08/11For detoxification of the scalp - Salt Scrub
With ingredients like Himalayan salt, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil and honey – you know your scalp is going to be devoid of all the product built up. (read: toxins!) For the DIY, mix 1/4th cup Himalayan salt, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon coconut oil, honey and 5 drops of peppermint oil. Apply on scalp when hair is damp. Gently massage and leave for not more than 10 minutes. Wash as usual.
09/11For deep cleansing the scalp – Lemon Scrub
This scrub is so simple that we think you’ve probably tried it yourself at some point. All you need is sea salt, lemon juice and olive oil. The combination of these ingredients makes a powerful exfoliator, helping the scalp shed dead skin cells and loosen any oil that’s blocking hair follicles. For the DIY, mix equal amount of sea salt, lemon juice and olive oil. Massage for 10 minutes and wash it off as you usually do.
10/11For nourishing the scalp – Sugar Scrub
Since it’s nourishing in nature, this scrub is something between a scrub and mask. If you have a sensitive scalp, you should definitely try it out. For the DIY, you will need 3 tablespoon of a conditioner, muscovado sugar, 1 tablespoon of honey, extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil. Mix the ingredients together, and gently scrub the scalp with it. Keep the mask on for 15 minutes and wash away.
