The entire world has been sent into a frenzied panic ever since the coronavirus pandemic broke out. Governments all over the world have issued lockdowns and have ordered people to quarantine themselves if they feel the symptoms of the virus rising up. What's more, the WHO has also issued a set of guidelines for people to follow so that they don't end up falling sick.
One of these guidelines includes wearing gloves whenever one steps out so that they don't end up touching surfaces that could be contaminated. However, a nurse has now tried to make people realise that unless they wash their hands they are still very much at risk of catching the virus despite wearing gloves.
When Molly Lixey, a nurse from Michigan realised that people weren't actually using their gloves properly, she decided to make a video about it and posted it on Facebook. The video has since then gone viral. In the video, she described how people could fall sick very easily (despite wearing gloves) if they didn't follow other basic safety rules like washing their hands. She used green paint to demonstrate how the virus can spread from one place to another due to the lack of basic hygiene.
“I had gone grocery shopping that morning and seen many people improperly using their gloves. When I got home I was doing some painting around the house and it hit me that paint would be a perfect medium to use to explain this,” Lixey said to an online media portal. “I understand as a nurse, I have had extensive training in the use of PPE, but many people in the general public have not.”
“A lot of people assume gloves and masks are magic bubbles, and it’s just not true. People need to be aware of what they are doing not only to protect themselves but also to protect others,” she said. “I think it’s just a lack of awareness. If you’ve never been trained in the proper use of PPE, you won’t know how to use it appropriately.”
When you don't wash your hands after you've taken off your gloves, you still risk catching an infection from all the things your gloves must have touched when you had them on. This is why it's so important to constantly sanitise your hands and make sure that you're not touching your face. Stay tuned for more updates.
