There are so many perks of getting your acrylic nails done, but let’s be real there’s a dark side too. No wonder a set of fake nails can cost you a hole in your pocket but do you know even removing them is no less? It is often advised to not remove them at home as only nail technicians can do it for you without causing much harm. However, if you're someone who doesn’t have the time to visit the nail salon or want to save some extra bucks by removing them at home, try these techniques to effectively remove your fake nail without damaging your natural nails.
Nail experts suggest using nail guards-a thin nail-shaped films that are meant to protect the natural nails from the fake ones. The application of a nail guard makes the removal process so much easier. If your nail manicure involves nail guard then begin by applying some cuticle oil at the base of each nail and use a wooden manicure stick to gently push the enhancement of the nail. Slowly move the stick under the nail guard and lift off the fake nail. You might need to add acetone or cuticle oil again and again during this procedure. Finish off by scrapping the residual adhesive and nourishing your nail with cuticle oil.
Similar to gel nails acrylics can also be removed using acetone. You can begin with trimming your nails to the desired size and use a nail filer to buff until you break the top layer of the nail. Place your hands in two bowls of acetone so that each nail is completely submerged in the liquid. Cover each bowl with a hot towel to speed up the process until 15 minutes. Finish off by pushing any loosened products on the nails and your fake nail shall come out right then. Buff the nail and use a polish remover to clean your nails. Don’t forget to massage your nails with cuticle oil.
Another quick DIY is to mix any mineral-based products, like baby oil with warmed acetone. One must be really careful while trying to warm acetone to avoid accidents. Soak your nails in the solution for 45 minutes and your fake nails will come off smoothly.
