Vidya Balan was all set to work in her debut Malayalam film ‘Aami’, until she decided to opt out at the eleventh hour due to ‘creative differences’ with the film’s director, Kamal. According to a source, Vidya liked the script and gave a heads up for the project. However, the script went through some changes at the last moment and Vidya wasn’t very pleased with the new script. She was also facing difficulties in getting into the skin of the character as she was not able to spend enough time with the director and writers to discuss the character. Eventually, she decided to opt out of the project, something that did not go down too well with the producers.
Talking about this in a recent interview with the DNA, Kamal said, “Well, the producers feel humiliated. They feel they’ve been shown in a poor light in the movie business. My producers are businessmen, and at the end of the day, they look at films as business ventures. They’ve lost substantial money because of Vidya’s abrupt departure. We now have to build the market’s confidence in our project from scratch.”

While the producers are planning to take legal action against Vidya, Kamal feels there’s no point in doing so. Talking about the same, Kamal added, “What purpose will it serve? What is done is done. We’ve now found a fabulous replacement for Vidya. It’s time to move on.”

She is Malayali like her and very focused on getting it right. She made a big name for herself. She took a longish break. Now she’s back and we’re very happy she has agreed to do our film,” asserted Kamal.
“We begin shooting in March. Hopefully, there will be no more setbacks,” concluded Kamal.
