While to us celebrities may seem immortal, death has a way of showing everyone that celebrities are humans too. We Indians have always had a fascination with knowing every little detail about our favourite celebrities' lives. So it's only natural that people tend to get curious when their favourite celebrities pass away suddenly. Here is a list of Indian celebrities who passed away under mysterious circumstances.

Bollywood actress Sridevi's sudden demise left not just the industry but the entire nation in shock. The 54-year-old actress was in Dubai, accompanied by her husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi Kapoor, to attend a relative's wedding. The actress was then found unconscious in the bathroom of her hotel room. She was then rushed to the hospital where she was declared brought dead. Latest reports suggested that the cause of her death was accidental drowning, but nothing was officially confirmed. Her death certainly came as a blow to the entire industry and her fans, family and friends have been left heartbroken.

Another death that shocked the entire nation was Bollywood actress Divya Bharti's. Divya was one of the most popular actresses of the 90's and her sudden death left the entire nation in dismay. Divya died at the age of 21 on 5 April 1993, from head injuries after falling off the balcony from her fifth-floor apartment in Versova, Mumbai. The cause of her death was never officially established. While some theorised that she was drunk and had fallen off, others claimed that she had committed suicide. Her parents, on the other hand, claimed that she had been murdered. But later, the police shut her case claimingterming her death was accidental.

Actress Jiah Khan was only 25 years old when she was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom at her residence in Juhu. Although initially her death was termed as a suicide, her mother claimed that the actress was driven to suicide by her then-boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi. There were several inconsistencies in her death report as well as several marks were found on her body. In 2016 the CBI ruled out her death as murder and termed it as suicide. However, Jiah's mother then hired a British forensic expert who claimed that her suicide was staged. The case has still not been solved.

Guru Dutt had quite a tragic life. Back in those days, he made artistic films as opposed to commercial films and most of his movies are considered as classics. The actor was found dead in his apartment on Pedder road, on 10 October 1964. Reportedly, he had mixed sleeping pills with alcohol and that had led to his unexpected demise. It has still not been determined if his death was an accident or if he had attempted suicide. Although he had attempted suicide twice before his death, his son still claimed that his father's death had to have been an accident.

Parveen Babi was touted as one of the most glamorous actresses of the 70's and 80's in Bollywood. The actress had worked in several blockbuster hit films and had even been linked with various Bollywood celebrities including Mahesh Bhatt, Kabir Bedi and Danny Denzongpa. Parveen was also linked to Amitabh Bachchan. The actress had then suddenly vanished from the industry and was then held at an international airport in the US. When she was finally allowed to return to Mumbai, she was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. She was found dead in her apartment in January 2005. The cause of her death is unknown. However, officials claimed that the severe gangrene on her foot could have claimed her life.

Actress Lavina Bhatia found Kunal Singh hanging from the ceiling in his flat in Mumbai, in 2008. Kunal had appeared in the film 'Dil Hi Dil Mein' and many people were smitten by his charm and good looks. The actor's sudden death had left everyone surprised. And his father Rajendra Singh claimed that it wasn’t a case of suicide, but murder as there was evidence of bruising on his body. The actress who had discovered his body was also detained for questioning but was eventually let go as there was no evidence against her. Later on the police found out that Kunal had earlier also slashed his wrists in a suicide attempt, and so they declared his death as a suicide.

Pratyusha Banerjee was one of the most famous TV actresses in the Hindi industry. The actress was at the peak of her career when she was found hanging in her apartment in 2016. Her death had left everyone shocked as there were no signs that she was disturbed enough to commit suicide. According to her postmortem report, the cause of her death was asphyxiation. But her parents thought otherwise. They even claimed that her ex-boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh had been the driving force behind Pratyusha's drastic decision.

Silk Smitha whose real name was Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati became a very popular sex icon in the south and Bollywood industries during the 80's. She had appeared in over 450 films Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi. In 1996, Silk called up a friend of her's to discuss something that had been bothering her. But unfortunately, her friend wasn't able to make it that night. The next morning Silk was found dead in her apartment. While most people claim that she committed suicide due to depression others suspect there was foul play involved.

Nafisa Joseph was one of the most beloved VJs in the industry. At the mere age of 26, Nafisa decided to end her life due to love gone awry. Nafisa hanged herself in her flat in Versova on 29 July 2004. She was to marry businessman Gautam Khanduja in a few weeks' time. According to her parents, Nafisa took the step because her marriage was called off. This was due to her having discovered that Gautam was still married, although having told her he had been divorced for two years. When confronted, Gautam refused to answer questions about his marital life or produce divorce papers that he had previously claimed he had filed. Instead, press reports at the time mention that he then threatened her with blackmail, probably after she threatened to confront his wife.
