Sharmila Tagore’s life has been nothing less than an inspiration. The actress started her career with renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s Bengali film Apur Sansar, and from then on she continued to garner praises aplenty for her various portrayals on-screen. While the actress managed to make herself a successful film career, what she also managed to carve for herself was a personal life that the many actresses back then desired.
In 1969 the veteran actress married the Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan, who was also the then former captain of Indian cricket team. Mansoor Ali Khan was a legend on his own. The two made a beautiful couple, a matrimony which was a rare sighting in the otherwise glamorous industry of Bollywood. And thus the fine-looking couple has attracted many a filmmakers who desired to uncover their much-celebrated lives on the 70mm screen.
Recently, Sharmila Tagore was asked about the possibility of a biopic on the life of Mansoor Ali Khan, to which she opined, “Yes, of course, I would like a movie to be made on Mansoor Ali Khan. If someone really directs it properly, with proper research, then I think I would like it. I think his life has got a lot of things… the accident, the time when he lost his father, and about playing cricket with such a handicap.”
When further asked as to who would she like to see in the role of Pataudi, she said, “I really don’t know… somebody who looks like Tiger. Maybe Ranbir Kapoor, or even someone else in the family.” And when asked which actress would she like to see portray her on screen, she said, “Wouldn’t that be a challenge. What about Alia Bhatt?”
