Rajinikanth to replace Shah Rukh Khan as Malaysia's ambassador?
If reports are to be believed, megastar Rajinikanth might replace Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador for Malaysia tourism
Ritambhara Dixit | Updated: Mar 31, 2017, 12:55 ISTIf reports are to be believed, megastar Rajinikanth might replace Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador for Malaysia tourism. Rajinikanth's name for the position of the brand ambassador was suggested by Minister of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and was very well received by the MPs of the Malaysian Parliament.
Like in India, Rajinikanth is one of the most-loved stars in Malaysia. In fact, his last release, 'Kabali' was not only dubbed in Malay but also was very well received. The film focussed on Malaysian Tamils and was largely shot in the country. An ode to Rajini's fandom in Malaysia was the fact that when the actor was shooting in the country for 'Kabali' people would often throng near the sets and Rajinikanth's hotel for a glimpse of the actor.
It was almost a decade ago that Shah Rukh Khan was conferred with the title of 'Dato', the Malay equivalent of the Indian Padma honour. Considering Rajini's connect with his Malay fans, the tourism board is positive regarding getting Rajinikanth on board and replacing Shah Rukh Khan, who has been the ambassador since 2008. A source close to the actor confirmed that the actor has been approached for the position, but he is yet to give his nod for the same.
