With a series of posts shaming Bollywood actors for celebrities endorsing fairness creams, Abhay Deol has started a debate about the endorsement of fairness creams in India. While many people from the industry have come forth in the support of banning of ads, many celebrities have chosen to remain mum on the issue.
Though Abhay Deol mentioned actors like Sonam Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor and others, desi girl Priyanka Chopra was excluded from the narrative. PeeCee, who is currently in Mumbai for a vacation, in a recent interview opened up about her take on the debate.
Priyanka said,
"I endorsed a fairness cream many years ago, for about 12 months, and then I realised that's not like how I felt. After that, I never endorsed fairness creams."In fact, this is not the first time that Priyanka Chopra has expressed his regret for endorsing fairness products. In past PeeCee said, "I got swayed into doing it,” she says, “but then I realised it made me feel like I did as a kid – I used to try all those products until I became Miss India.” Did she wish she had lighter skin? She nods. “It really works on your psyche, man. We don’t realise it, but it does. I was the darkest, so in jest, my family called me kaali [black girl], and I never really understood how much that affected me until I was a teenager.”
