As reported earlier a non-bailable warrant was issued against Sanjay Dutt for allegedly threatening filmmaker Shakeel Noorani. The case dates back to 2002 when Sanjay had signed on to do Noorani's film 'Jaan Ki Baazi' for Rs 50 lakhs. Sanjay started shooting for the film but walked out of it midway further causing the filmmaker a loss of Rs 5 crores.
Noorani's several attempts at reaching out to the actor failed miserably, and instead, he received death threats from underworld goons. The actor was supposed to appear for a hearing post his release from prison in February last year after he finished serving his sentence in the 1993 Bombay serial blasts case. But the actor failed to do so, and a warrant was issued against him at the Andheri court.
Representing Noorani is Advocate Neeraj Gupta, who pertaining to this case said, "Since his release, he has not appeared before the court for the past four-five hearings. This was brought to the notice of the court which has issued a warrant against Dutt."
Dutt's spokesperson too cleared the air on the case, and said, "This case has been going on for a long time and the present situation has arisen because of the communication lapse between our lawyers and us. We respect the urgency shown by the honourable court regarding our attendance/representation and would take immediate measures to rectify the situation."
Ashok Dudhe, Mumbai Police spokesperson said, "It is a bailable warrant, which will be served to the actor."
However, the actor today appeared for the hearing in the Andheri metropolitan magistrate's court. The warrant against the actor is now revoked as the actor finally made an appearance in the court.
