Trouble seems to be unending for Raveena Tandon's latest film, 'Maatr'. There were reports that during the film's screening on Tuesday the censor board members walked out of the preview. And according to latest reports after the watching the film on Saturday, they have rejected the film - practically banning it for the time being.
A source close to the development revealed, "Maatr has graphic and gruesome violence against women. The film is carpeted with maa-bahen expletives. We can’t even recommend that the abuses be beeped as they run through the course of the film in an ongoing rush of profanity."
“Rape sequences are always tricky. We never know when they stop becoming shocking and get into the voyeuristic/titillating zone. In Maatr, the women’s violation is subject to allegations of excessive elaboration. Though the film is well-intended and hard-hitting, we cannot take the risk of incurring the wrath of organisations devoted to prevention of violation against women,” the source further said.
When asked about the rumours of ban, Anjum Rizvi, the producer of Maatr, rubbished them and said “I don’t know where these news have come from. Maatr will be viewed by the CBFC on Monday, the film is hence not banned.”
Talking about the film, CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani said, "We have done our best to accommodate this film’s requirements. We even opened the CBFC office on Saturday, a non-working-day, to re-view the film."
A revenge thriller 'Maatr' is directed by Ashtar Sayed and is slated to release on April 21, 2017.
