A women’s group in Goa, ‘Ranaragini’, has petitioned to the Goa State Women’s Commission for the removal of all ads featuring Bollywood actress Sunny Leone promoting a condom brand. Following this, the commission has issued a notice concerning this matter.
Ranaragini states that these ads objectify the female gender and when placed in public places they embarrass women and makes things awkward for them. Neha Govekar from the organisation signed the petition that said, “A different message is conveyed on account of this. This is a very ugly scene. We have received complaints about this from many women. We, hereby, kindly request you to remove these pictures.”

It has been observed that there is a use of women’s picture in contraceptive ads at public places like the Kadamba Transport Corporation buses and elsewhere,” added the petition.
However, Govekar did clarify that they were not taking a stand against the ads but against the fact that women are being objectified in them, “why should a government concern have such ads on them,” she added. The commission’s chairperson, Vidya Shet Tanavade, issued a statement to the media that said “We have received the complaint. As a commission, we will issue notices to all parties involved and probe the matter.”
