In today's time and age, it's no secret that most people spend their office hours staring at a computer screen. Most of your work might require you to spend pretty much all day working at things on your laptop. And while this can be bad for your physical health in terms of not getting much movement or exercise, it can also be really bad for your eyes. You might have noticed that when you stare at your screen for too long, your eyes start getting dry and watery.
If you're also noticing symptoms like redness, light sensitivity, itchiness and blurred vision, then you're probably suffering from dry eyes. “Eyes, like any other part of your body, get tired and need rest,” says ophthalmologist Dr Rajib Mukherjee of Delhi. “Dry eye happens when you overuse your eyes. It is a common and often chronic problem, and can afflict just about anyone at work, provided they keep long hours working on the computer.”
If you're looking for ways to reduce this strain on your eyes and keep a check on their health, here are some tips you can follow.
Use eye drops: Go to a doctor and get prescribed eye drops that you can put in your eyes at regular intervals. They work like a lubricant and will help keep your eyes hydrated and moisturised so that they don't dry up.
Adjust the lights at your workplace: Ask someone to make your workplace area brighter. Also, ensure that your computer is set at the right brightness, it should neither be too bright nor too dim. Sit at a proper angle so as to not strain your eyes or your body.
Blink frequently: If you're in an air-conditioned room, make sure that you blink your eyes frequently as they're more prone to getting dry soon. Set a reminder if you have to.
Do not smoke: If you're a smoker then we suggest you stop smoking at least during working hours as this can make the dry eye condition much worse.
Opt for a good diet: Doctors suggest that you should opt for green leafy vegetables to help improve your eye health. They work rather well especially if you've got dry eyes.
Well, we sure hope these tips will help you. Stay tuned for more updates.
