What's more heartbreaking than fishing out your foundation or mascara and finding out that it's over? Having to throw away a beauty product with some still left inside it of course! But let us bring your attention to the fact that using a beauty product way past its expiration date is a big no-no. So if you can't remember when you bought the product then you ought to really throw it away. Here's how long you should be using your beauty products for:
3-6 months Anything liquid basically like your liquid eyeliner should be used or thrown away between 3 to 6 months. Liquids can be a playground for bacteria to thrive in so you really wouldn't want to be using something like that on your face. Remember this rule for natural products as well because as much as we may love them, they expire really fast.
6 months to 1 year Try to use foundations and concealers with pumps so that they don't come in contact with your bacteria ridden fingers. Creams, serums, and oils can oxidize over time when we use them, which means they mix with oxygen and can stop being as effective as they're supposed to be. Creams with anti-aging properties stop being effective after about 9 months.
1-2 years Powders, including eyeshadows, bronzers, blush and setting powders have a longer shelf life, however, when you use sponges and brushes the oil from your face can get implanted in the powder. So eventually you'll have to throw it away. Lipsticks, lip gloss, and lip pencils should also ideally be thrown away after a few years. Nail varnishes must be thrown if you're struggling with them.
So, be careful and take good care of your skin.
