Paying attention to what your body tells you is of extreme importance. Sometimes your body gives some jarring signs and symptoms for sickness. Your tongue is no different. Here are a few things you should look out for
White plaqueWhite plaque could indicate yeast infection or candidiasis, and it looks a little similar to cottage cheese. This can happen due to several reasons, right from diabetes to a weak immune system or antibiotic intake. It’s always a good idea to consult a doctor.
Small white spots on the tongueThis is possible indication of something irritating your skin. However, a major reason for this is smoking. 5 to 17 per cent of the cells produced could be precancer cells. If the spots persist for several weeks, visit a doctor and get the necessary tests done. Also, red spots on the tongue can be a possible sign of cancer.
A strawberry red colour This could imply a lack of vitamins in your body. A deficiency in iron and vitamin B12 is likely to cause your tongue to change its colour to strawberry red. The tongue can smoothen out later due to smoothening of taste buds. There are chances of strong pains when you eat spicy food or drink hot beverages. It’s an indication of an impending visit to your doctor.
Painful soresPainful sores are often due to oral thrush. While it’s common among children, about 20 per cent of adults also experience it. They are indicative of a weak immune system and stress, and normally disappear within 2 weeks. Take ample rest and take care of your health. Visit a doctor if the problem persists.
