Essential oils contain ingredients that are highly concentrated and in spite of them being natural, they can very much damage your skin and cause irritation too. A lot of us think that these oils are meant for soothing and have great benefits, but some of them also have side effects which we tend to not know of.
Here are a few essential oils that can have harmful effects on your skin:
- Lemon oil: This oil can reduce anxiety and soothes the skin. It can also kill bacteria on your skin and helps in educing pigmentation and scars. It is also known for skin lightening. Although, it is a citrus oil and can cause skin redness and sunburns too. This can be if you use it on your skin and expose it to the sun. Lemon oil makes your skin even more sensitive to the UV rays and easily causes your skin to burn and feel irritation.
- Cinnamon oil: This oil has a very spicy and sweet scent and has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. But it can also be dangerous in terms of it being a strong oil which can cause a lot of skin irritation and it also has the ability to burn your skin.
- Peppermint oil: This one is quite a popular one for the kind of health benefits that it has. It can cure cold and pain and other such common illnesses. But this oil can very much have a negative impact on the skin where it can cause skin allergies and lead to rashes which ultimately causes redness.
