Bananas are never getting enough credit for being a healthy and inexpensive food item. But there’s a study that is about to change that up! According to experts, including bananas in your diet may do wonders for patients of high blood pressure or hypertension.
High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a condition where the force of your blood against the blood vessels is too high. According to the WHO estimates, as many as 17.9 million people died from cardiovascular diseases in the year 2016, representing 31% of all global deaths. Of these deaths, 85% are due to heart attack and stroke.
Poor diet and lifestyle are one of the main causes of it. Since bananas are a good source of fibres and antioxidants, experts recommend them to hypertension and high blood pressure patients to keep healthy. Additionally, they’re also low on sodium, which comes as a boon for high blood pressure patients who are advised to restrict their sodium intake. Its potassium content also acts as a vasodilator. It helps negate the ill-effects of sodium by eliminating extra sodium out of your system through urine.
With an easy-to-peel coating, bananas are the easiest fruit to eat. Additionally, you can also blend them in smoothies; use them as toppings to your cereals or bake your own home-made banana bread.
However, despite their health benefits, caution must be practiced as an excess of anything could do harm to blood pressure levels.
