We've all suffered from a nasty sunburn at least once in our lives and we're well aware of how annoying and painful it can be. We end up with sunburn when we don't take the appropriate measures like using enough sunscreen or wearing the right clothes to shield ourselves from the sun's rays. So, if you do end up with a sunburn, the best thing to do is to start treating it immediately so that you can soothe that stinging sensation and help restore your skin to its best version. Here are some things you can do to treat a sunburn:
- Take cold showers: One of the best things you can do is take regular showers in cold water to help soothe the sunburnt area. It'll help relieve the pain. Once you're out of the showers, pat yourself dry but leave a little water on the sunburnt areas. Then apply a moisturiser to those areas to help trap the water in them.
- Use the right moisturisers: Right now your priority isn't conditioning and moisturising your skin, it is to help soothe the sunburn while also getting rid of it effectively. So, try to invest in moisturisers that contain ingredients like aloe vera and soy to help soothe your skin. And avoid anything that contains ingredients like petroleum, benzocaine, or lidocaine.
- Take medicines if needed: If your sunburn is unbearably painful, go to a doctor and ask for the right painkillers and medicines to treat it. It'll help reduce inflammation and discomfort.
- Drink plenty of water: When you get a sunburn it can make your skin very dry. So, don't just moisturise it from the outside, hydrate your skin from the inside also. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
- Take extra care of your skin: Now that your skin is damaged, you need to do everything to keep it safe so that it can heal quickly. Try wearing full-sleeved clothes and opt for tight woven fabrics so that no light can pass through them.
- Don't touch blisters: Sometimes when sunburn is really bad, it ends up causing blisters to come out on your skin. Please do NOT pop these blisters. It'll only make the sunburn a lot worse. Treat the sunburn with the right medicines and give it time to heal on its own.
- Go to the doctor if you feel sick: If there are any signs of weakness, fatigue and dizziness this means that the sunburn is making you sick so you need to visit the doctor ASAP. Take the right medicines to ensure that your sunburn goes away as soon as possible.
Now, that you know what the best ways to treat sunburn are, make sure that you keep all of these tips in mind. And while we understand that it may not always be possible to avoid getting a sunburn, try to ensure that you keep your skin as safe as possible when you step into the sun.
