People give a lot of priority to their health these days. More often than not we see people opting for a healthier lifestyle by going to the gym, following the right diet and even enrolling in certain health programs. But it's also a known fact that not everyone has the time or dimes to head to the gym on a regular basis. In today's busy world it can be quite difficult to add staying fit and healthy to your schedule. So, why not try something a little different like burpees? The best thing about this form of exercise is that you can opt for it anywhere. So, neither will you have to take out the time to go to the gym nor will you have to lose money unnecessarily.
The exercise was created in 1940 by Royal H.Burpee as part of his PhD thesis. And it picked up popularity after it was incorporated in the US army as a means of assessing the right fitness levels. Also known as the squat thrust, a burpee happens to be an exercise that is used for strength and core training. If you're wondering how exactly it is that you can perform a burpee, here's what you need to do.
To begin with, stand in a straight position with your legs slightly apart. Then get down in a squatting position and immediately follow by a plank. From this, you need to return to the squatting position keeping your arms extended so that you are in a raised plank position. Finally, jump in the air with your arms raised upward.
Now, if you're someone who has the time to head to the gym, it would be preferable if you could opt for this exercise twice a week by performing four sets of 15 repetitions. But if you're someone who doesn't go to the gym, you could just opt for this exercise at home instead. Start with the basic burpee by performing 15-20 repetitions of 3-4 sets.
Once you get a hang of things, you can start adding variations to the exercise by doing things like push-ups and box jumps. You could even opt for a High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Exercise wherein you do a 100 burpees by performing the first fifteen repetitions quickly and completing the rest in under 10 minutes. Don't try this unless you've mastered the basic burpee.
So, the best part about doing a burpee exercise is that because it puts your entire body into play, you end up burning a lot of fat and calories. However, you also need to remember that you need to consume the right diet for the exercise to be effective. Try to add proteins and vitamins to your diet and eat lots of green veggies.
