If you get inspiration for food from Instagram, chia puddings, chia smoothies and all that jazz about chia aren’t unknown for you. Despite all that buzz, not many people what they are. Chia seeds look like small black seeds at first look. They are a powerhouse of nutrition. Chia seeds are a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids, proteins, and other essential nutrients. Apart from that, they also make great fiber-rich food, which is why they make a great alternative for weight loss purposes.
But does that really make it an effective food for weight loss? A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine says that a meal rich in fiber and protein helps in losing weight. People who increased their intake of protein by 30 percent are said to have fewer calories and lose weight faster. But let’s look at it logically. Weight loss requires a healthy, clean diet along with a healthy dose of workout. Eating little or more than you should don’t have a huge difference at one’s overall weight loss. Hence, a single food item doesn’t help you solve your health goals.
While Chia doesn't have any side effects, suddenly increasing its intake and multiplying your fiber intake can have some sudden impacts on the body, especially for those who had very less fiber earlier. Interestingly, most people feel fuller on eating chia seeds. This is because chia absorbs liquid and then expand. And it does the same inside your body.
So if you are skipping certain essential foods to eat more chia, it may not be the ideal thing to do. Because by doing this you are reducing the variety in your diet and thereby cutting down nutrients from other foods.
