After being indefinitely delayed for several months, Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor starrer 'Veere Di Wedding' hits another road block. The makers are now facing title issues as the Bombay High Court ruled in favour of Jimmy Sheirgill starrer 'Veerey Ki Wedding' instead of Sonam-Kareena's 'Veere Di Wedding'.
A leading daily report suggests that Sonam's father Anil Kapoor moved to the court to stop the makers of 'Veerey Ki Wedding' from using the title, further claiming that they were seeking attention by using a similar-sounding title. Producers of 'Veerey Ki Wedding', Rajat Bakshi, Rajesh Bakshi and Pramod Gomber of Make My Day Entertainment were served a notice stating that a hearing will be held at 11 am on Thursday.
Director Ashu Trikha revealed, "We were informed that their lawyers had sent a notice asking us to be present in court, else they’d seek interim relief. We rushed to get our paperwork done."
Justice GS Patel ruled in 'Veerey Ki Wedding's' favour. “The judge said he was not convinced by the (Anil’s) argument. He did not find any misuse or deceit as alleged, given that the story and cast were different. We are waiting for the judgement copy.”
However, the Kapoor's can further appeal in the court. Anil had earlier even written to the Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association, urging intervention. However, since Trikha had acquired a copyright and trademark for the title, Anil’s claims were dismissed on flimsy grounds, especially since the film is yet to go on floors. Makers of 'Veerey Ki Wedding' have completed the film and are looking at releasing the film post August.
