According to the reports, the Central Censor board of Pakistan has decided not to release 'Raees' in Pakistan, one week prior to the release date. The film's release in the country has been banned due to the portrayal of Muslims in the negative light in the film.
A source close to the development said, "the content undermines Islam, and a specific religious sect, (It also) portrays Muslims as criminals, wanted persons and terrorists".
Last week, Pakistani actress, Mahira Khan had joined the success celebrations of the film and interacted with the media via a video call. During the course of interaction, Mahira had also revealed that people in Pakistan were eagerly waiting for its release. Mahira had said, "You know there are more SRK fans than mine. Claps were louder for him, not me. It will release in Pakistan, and everybody is waiting.”
'Raees' director, Rahul Dholakia took to Twitter to express his outrage over the ban, and tweeted:
Hrithik's 'Kaabil', which clashed with SRK's 'Raees' was able to secure a successful release in Pakistan last week.
