As per a October 2016 report by the published by global valuation and corporate finance advisory firm Duff & Phelps, Shah Rukh Khan tops the list of the celebrity brand ambassadors. With brand SRK amounting to $131 million, SRK is the only celebrity whose brand valuation is more than a $100 million.
Trailing behind SRK is the current Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli with the brand valuation of $92 million. Virat Kohli has successfully managed to leverage his brand by approximately 25 percent as compared to last year.
Talking about comparisons, this year two female celebrities have managed to secure two spots in the top 5 positions, as compared to none in the last report. Deepika Padukone, who made her International debut with 'xXx: Return of Xander Cage' secured third position with the brand valuation of $86.1 million, whereas Priyanka stood fifth with her brand valuing over $44.9 million.
Talking about the list, Varun Gupta, managing director at Duff & Phelps India, said, "Celebrities are increasingly becoming angel ambassadors for startups under the co-ownership model, whereby the celebrity co-owns a part of the business venture which he or she is promoting. Celebrities are also leveraging their brands by venturing into related business areas as well as extending their brands also in unrelated businesses."
As revealed by the report, the top 5 sectors promoted by the celebrities are personal care, food and beverage, automobiles, e-commerce and jewellery.
