A lot has been said and speculated about Sanjay Dutt's biopic. The biopic, just like Sanjay's real life, is more often surrounded by controversies. However, as director Rajkumar Hirani kickstarts the project, in a tell-all, he opens up about the film and the controversies around it.
The film went on floors on 13th January, and on the occasion Rajkumar Hirani took to Twitter and tweeted:
Over the past few months, Rajkumar has maintained a stoic silence to keep the minutest detail about the film under wraps. But as he sets out to start shooting, in an interview with a leading daily, Rajkumar opened up about the star cast and the storyline of the film. He said, "It's not a film about guns, drugs and the underworld. It's a feel-good film about a father-son relationship with Paresh Rawal playing Sunil Dutt and Ranbir as Sanju... A buddy film with Sanju's many friends adding up to one from the US, played by Vicky Kaushal."
When the filmmaker was questioned as to why he chose Ranbir to play the role, Rajkumar Hirani spoke about how for the past six months Ranbir has been prepping for his role that spans from 21 to 56 years. He further added, "He has to put on a few more kilos before losing it all.The first time I saw him in get-up, I thought it was Sanju. I clicked him and sent it across to Sanju who wondered why I was sending him his own pictures."
The film will also see Anushka Sharma play a journalist, Sonam Kapoor as Sanjay's love interest has loved, and 'Neerja' famed Jim Sarbh too has a role in the film. However, the hunt for an actress who will play Sanjay's mother Nargis Dutt's role is still on.
