Mohit Suri's 'Half Girlfriend', an adaption of the novel by the same name by Chetan Bhagat, is all set to release on May 10. Starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles, this Mohit Suri directorial is one of the most-awaited films of the year.
While the novel featured author Chetan Bhagat in the book as the narrator, if reports are to be believed, exercising creative freedom, director Mohit Suri has eliminated Chetan Bhagat's role from the film. Talking to a leading tabloid, Mohit said, "Chetan asked me to make the movie, maybe because he thought I was the right person to convert the book to a film. (However) I have edited the narrator (Chetan) from my story. So, basically, I have cut Chetan's role from the film."
Explaining why the change was necessary the director further added, "The book was written in English, but the hero cannot converse in that language, so that has been changed. There was also some sexual abuse backstory to Shraddha's character that I have tweaked. She has a dark past. But the story will concentrate more on the love ( the romantic equation with Arjun's character)."
While the writer is yet to comment on the issue, Chetan's spokesperson has denied having any knowledge regarding the same.
