Demonitisation has finally sunk in the system of the common man, but one cannot ignore that the decision has hit the market in a diverse manner. The film industry too has been affected by the recent move and the films that released post demonitisation have had to face the brunt.
Javed Akhtar, who penned down the lyrics for the songs in ‘Rock On 2’ admitted that the film didn’t do too well, and the cause of it turning out to be a dud was PM Narendra Modi's recent decision to defunct 500 and 1000 currency notes. Talking to the media, lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar said, “Rock on 2 was obviously affected by demonetisation.” He agreed that Farhan’s film fared poorly at the box office as many were struggling due to the recent currency ban.
He further added, “It released days after the decision was taken and failed to do well because 84 percent of the currency was banned and people were struggling.” The film released on November 11, and has not been able to make a mark at the box office. While some have stated the reason to be the film’s unimpressive story line, the makers have maintained it is demonitisation that has affected the film’s collection.
