On the New Years night when the world was busy bringing in the New Year, a gun attack in Istanbul nightclub has left us devastated. A masked gunman indiscriminately opened fire in a nightclub. The gunfire claimed the lives of 39 people, among whom two were Indians. One of the deceased was a well-known producer-educationist Abis Rizvi from Mumbai. Abis was celebrating New Year at the Reina nightclub on the Bosphorus with a few of his friends when an unidentified man opened fire at the venue.
Abis's father, Dr Akhtar Hasan Rizvi, is a former Rajya Sabha MP and noted builder and an educationist. It has been tragic for the family as their younger son, Saquib Rizvi, lost his life in an accident in 2010. And with Abis's death, the family is left devastated.
Javed Rizvi, trustee, Rizvi Education Society, issued a statement saying, "Rizvi Educational Society mourns the death of its secretary Abis Rizvi in a terrorist attack in Istanbul on Sunday. Abis Rizvi was vacationing in Turkey when he fell victim to the heinous act. He is survived by his son, wife and parents. The family requests privacy in this hour of grief."
The death has indeed saddened the industry as they mourn over the terrorist attack that claimed the lives of many. The industry took it to social media sites to express sadness over Abis's death.
