Let's just say that when you meet someone for a date at the restaurant, the one thing that works as a saving grace if the date isn't going well is the food. And if the food isn't great either, then god be with you. Well, turns out, there are now women who go on dates only to get to eat some amazingly good food and for free! This new trend is called 'foodie call'.
The research found that nearly 23-33% of women who participated in an online survey claimed that they had opted for this 'foodie call' when they wanted to eat free food. Apparently, these are also the women who score high on the 'dark triad' (psychopathic traits) of personality. These women also supposedly express traditional gender role beliefs and are more likely to engage in such behaviour because they believe it to be right.
For the study nearly 820 women were recruited out of which 40% reported they were single, 33% reported being married and 27% claimed they were in a relationship but were not married. Out of all of these women, 85% reported being heterosexual and were considered as the focus of this study. These women were then asked questions about their personality traits, beliefs about gender roles, and their foodie call history. They were also asked if 'foodie calls' were acceptable to them.
While 23% of the women said that they believed opting for a 'foodie call' was acceptable, most women said that it was moderately to extremely unacceptable. The women who said that it was acceptable also showed higher traits of the 'dark triad' personality. “Several dark traits have been linked to deceptive and exploitative behaviour in romantic relationships, such as one-night stands, faking an orgasm, or sending unsolicited sexual pictures,” said Brian Collisson, lead author of the study.
