It may not seem that way but acne and zits are pretty common skin issues, however, they sure can be annoying to deal with. And what's even worse is that sometimes you might see your skin clearing up only to have more breakouts come out the next day. While you may wonder what's causing so many issues on your skin, the most common trigger of such skin problems is hormonal changes. And we women know what it's like to have such hormonal changes every month thanks to our menstrual cycle.
Well, experts suggest that since these hormonal changes can completely change the way your skin is, it's best to keep changing your skincare routine according to your menstrual cycle.
Stage 1: The Menstrual Phase (Day 1 to 5) - This starts with day 1 of your period and this is also the phase where your skin tends to be the oiliest. Since your body starts to produce extra oestrogen it also hinders your hormonal balance and this leads to excessive oil and sebum production in the skin, hence the plethora of breakouts. Make sure to cleanse your face regularly during this time and also try to mildly exfoliate so that your skin stays clean.
Stage 2: The Follicular Phase (Day 5 to 15) - This stage is when your oestrogen levels drop significantly and so your skin starts to feel all dry and flaky. This is when you should hydrate your face by using moisturisers and face masks. Also, make sure to drink a lot of water so that your skin can hydrate itself from the inside.
Stage 3: Luteal Phase (Day 15 to 28) - This is the last phase of the cycle and is the phase where things will finally start going right for your skin again. Your blood circulation will increase as will your oestrogen levels. It'll help provide a natural flush and glow to your face. So, make sure you apply the right skincare products during this time and eat the right kind of foods.
