The process of running your fingers through your hair is known as raking and we often tend to do this when we apply products to our hair. However, this is only supposed to be done in the shower when you're detangling your curls. Doing it when your hair is dry will lead to breakage and frizz.

Avoid using heat styling tools regularly

Transforming your bouncy curls into straight tresses can be a fun way to change up your look. However, you should avoid using heat styling tools, like blow drying and flat irons, very often. Doing these things once a month should be good enough. Too much heat may damage your hair and curls.

Avoid cotton pillows

Got curly hair? Avoid cotton pillows as it can cause your hair to go dry and may even damage it. Sleep on a silk or satin pillow instead. This will help keep your hair moisturised. Avoid using oil on your hair just before bed as it could stain your pillowcases.

Don’t brush when wet or dry

When your strands are wet, the elasticity of the hair increases causing it to be a lot more brittle and prone to breakage. When your strands are dry your hair breaks and cause even more frizz. You can brush your hair when it’s damp rather than soaking wet or bone dry.

Don’t over shampoo

Over-shampooing your lovely hair will only strip it off its natural oils and leave you with more frizz. When you do shampoo your hair, make sure you focus on the roots rather than the ends. Let the lather do its work on the scalp and the rest of the soapy water automatically clean the ends. Clean non-frizzy hair. Top it up with some deep conditioning and your hair will be happy for days.

Don’t use a fine tooth comb

Small, fine-tooth combs are clearly not meant for curly hair. Besides the very obvious size issue, using such a comb to detangle your hair can cause the curls to break, resulting in more frizz which is the worst thing to happen. Use a wide tooth comb, or even better, your fingers to detangle the hair and keep the curls intact. Oh, and never, ever brush from root to tip it unless Hagrid is the look you are actually going for.
