We've all gone through and probably still go through the notion of considering our belly to be fatter than it actually is because we think it's all the accumulation of fat on it. Whenever we have an unusually big belly, we tend to think that it's getting bigger due to all the fat accumulation on it. Although, there are many other reasons why your belly can get bigger which has nothing to do with fats.
So, if you're someone who's trying to cut down on those extra kilos, doing a rigorous workout session as well as diet, you need to slow down and first figure out the reason why your tummy looks big. Chances are, it might not be the fat building around your belly at all, but one of these reasons:
Water belly: There's something called as water retention or fluid retention which is caused due to excess fluid in your body. This is one of the ways that can show how your body reacts to stress. Swelling of your feet and hands are the most common examples of fluid retention, although, it can very much happen in the abdomen too. Now, in most cases, the swelling goes off in a few days, and the body comes down to its normal shape. But if you suffer from water belly, you must keep a track on your water weight and avoid the consumption of foods that contain salt or high amounts of sodium as it could lead to water retention. Also, drink loads of water as it an help flushing out the toxins and excess fluids from your body.
Gas belly: Excess gas accumulates in your stomach when certain food items don't get digested all too well. Foods like onions, cabbage and others are high in fibre and also produce gas. Apart from the undigested food, it is the bacteria in the stomach that can lead to gas and this could result in bloating in the abdomen. You can consume probiotic foods in order to increase the population of good bacteria in the gut which will promote efficient digestion process.
Cystic belly: Ovarian cyst can have reasons more than one. And out of many, one reason is the swelling in the abdomen. You must know that every month, an egg is released in the follicles of the ovary. However, sometimes, the follicle does not release an egg which can cause fluid accumulation inside the follicle that in turn causes the cyst. Many times, you'd not feel the symptoms and the cyst automatically goes away. But there is a twisting of the cyst which usually doesn't require any action.
