There might be a lot of information on the Internet about healthy eating habits, positives and negatives of each and every food item. There might also be a lot of information on the Internet about how each and every fruit and vegetable is beneficial to our health. But out of all that there is, we hardly know anything about the types of eating disorders and how it affects people. We might just label people as ‘too fat’ or ‘too skinny’. But we never really try to understand or learn if they’re facing any health issues and whether they are suffering from any eating disorders. It’s time we all learn the basics about the same and help each other get out of it or at least seek help. Hence, we’re going to list down a few eating disorders and how each one affects people.
–
Bulimia Nervosa: This one is a common eating disorder where it is seen affecting women more than men. Bulimia Nervosa usually affects a person during adolescence or early adulthood. Here, the person tends to binge eat large amounts of food which also includes the ones they’d generally avoid. There are times when the person feels like he/she can’t stop eating and has absolutely no control over the food intake and so they continue to eat until they’re painfully full. Then they try to compensate the calorie intake of the previous food by forcing it out of the body. They do this by forced vomiting, fasting or excessively exercising. The people who suffer from this eating disorder usually are skinny and don’t put on weight.

Anorexia Nervosa: Another common and quite known disorder is Anorexia Nervosa. This is where the person starts thinking that they’re obese or overweight even when they aren’t. And this makes them either go on a binge eating spree or restrictive eating. Binge eating and purging is where the person suffers from a type of anorexia where they first binge on food and then purge it all out of their body by forced vomiting. Restrictive eating is where the person loses weight by limiting whatever they eat. People who suffer from anorexia nervosa also suffer from an intense fear of gaining weight. This leads to bone thinning, infertility or brittle hair and nails. Due to this eating disorder, the person might also get a layer of fine hair all over their body over time.

Binge eating disorder: This one is a recent phenomenon where the person tends to binge eat in large quantities. It’s very similar to that of Bulimia Nervosa except that in this condition, the person binge eats but doesn’t purge it all out of the system. This then leads to excessive body weigh issues and other health related issues as well.
