The whole world was shocked by the butter rape scene controversy of Bernardo Bertolucci's 'Last Tango in Paris', where for a particular scene Marlon Brando raped the actress, Maria Schneider, without her consent. While we all are busy expressing disgust and shock over this incident, it seems that we have completely ignored the reality back home.
This page from Yasser Usman's recently released biography on Rekha recounts the details of a similar incident that took place with the actress.
As described, Rekha was not even 15 when this incident took place on the sets of her debut film, Anjana Safar. While shooting the actress was forcibly kissed by her co-star Biswajeet for full five minutes, as the camera kept on rolling. The actress who was in a state of shock could do nothing but close her eyes, as the crowd kept on cheering and whistling.
This scene was later labelled as a “bold scene”, which in turn marked the emergence of Rekha as the “sex kitten” of the industry. Apparently, such incidents were a common occurrence back in the day, and actresses kept mum about such incidents to save their careers!
