Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming ambitious project 'Rangoon' is set against the backdrop of 1940 when India was fighting a war for Independence. The trailer of the film is out, and by the looks of it, the film is a love triangle between Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut, and Shahid Kapoor. However, post the release of Rangoon's theatrical trailer, there were reports that the film is a biopic.
Denying the reports, director Vishal refuted the news calling it rumours. Clearing the air about it, the filmmaker said, "Rangoon’ is a love triangle set in the era of the Second World War. We have tried to create the ethos of the era but it’s a work of fiction."
Vishal further added, "It certainly doesn’t follow the life of any of the various actresses of that era be it that of Fearless Nadia, Miss Zebunissa, Miss Padma or Ramola. ‘Rangoon’ is a period drama that has a love triangle in its centre, it's not at all a biopic."
The film will see Saif in the role of a filmmaker who falls in love with Julia played by Kangana. And to add on to the cast is Shahid Kapoor who plays Nawab Malik, a soldier who falls in love with Julia. The film is soon to hit theatres on the 24th of February.
