'Raees' was Pakistani actress Mahira Khan's big Bollywood debut, however, the actress was not able to promote the film because of Pak artistes ban in India. The cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan and the Uri attacks compelled the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA) to impose a ban on Pakistani artistes prohibiting them from seeking work in the Indian film industry.
'Raees' too saw itself in the eye of a storm as political parties opposed its release, but because the film was shot before the ban imposed, the makers were allowed a stress-free release. But, amidst the tension, Mahira Khan could not be a part of the promotions in India, and Shah Rukh had to take it upon himself to promote the film solo.
And now the film has already entered the coveted 100 crore club and is enjoying a smooth run at the box-office even after clashing with Hrithik Roshan starrer 'Kaabil'. The makers of the film called for a press conference on the success of the film and organised for Mahira to be present through video call for media interaction.
Talking about not being able to promote the film along with Shah Rukh, Mahira said, "
I know there's a lot that has been said about it. Believe me, if you were in my place, to see your film, the way it has been doing, to see your songs and the trailer come out and every time everything has come out, to receive a lot of love... To feel that love is more than enough. I'm so happy that I'm sitting here and talking about it. And that is all that matters!"
