Today, November 2, feels different than usual. I remember every year on this date thronging outside Shah Rukh Khan’s house and wait for him to interact with the media. A cake cutting session followed by media interactions, on this day had become a norm. But today as I sit it office filing just ‘Happy Birthday Shah Rukh’ stories, I sort of miss the man talk of the milestones in his life.
As we may say Shah Rukh this year took time off to spend quality time with family and friends, we may also say that it’s not entirely true. Though SRK has been busy shooting for films- The Ring, Dear Zindagi, and Raees- back-to-back, but hasn’t it always been that way? Shah Rukh is not of the media shy-types, his opinions and statements are have always been impactful. But this time it is different, SRK has been making deliberate attempts at not making media appearances. Has he been restrained from making comments in regards to the many ongoing controversies?
King Khan’s next in line is ‘Dear Zindagi’ which is predominantly Alia Bhatt’s film. As SRK is the bigger star from two, him making statements regarding the Raees or Pakistani artistes controversies will affect the business of the film. He has faced a similar brunt due to a statement which affected Dilwale’s collection at the box office, or so what he believed. Even ‘Fan’ failed to impress at the box office, and SRK’s career faced a downfall which was thought will now only be levelled by his performance in Raees. While we hope that King Khan continues to entertain us for many more years to come, at the same time we wish that the charming actor will soon start talking to the media again.
Not being able to meet him today, with a very heavy heart, here is wishing SRK a very Happy Birthday!
