UTI - Urinary Tract Infection is quite a common bacterial infection that women get. A poor bladder health can also reduce your life's quality and so you need to take good care of it.
Luke Coutinho, holistic lifestyle coach and nutritionist says, "Most of us start to realise the importance of the bladder when we start having problems like urinary tract infection, frequent urination. As we age, a lot of people suffer from urinary incontinence (involuntary leakage of urine)."
Some of us have the tendency to hold on to our urine for too long which can very much affect the bladder health and lead to other health problems. We need to make sure that the bladder is fully empty on regular intervals.
Here are some tips on how to maintain a healthy bladder:
- Don't hold your urine for long hours: This is a very common thing that can lead to poor bladder health. The longer you keep your urine in your bladder, the more chances you are to get a UTI. It even weakens your bladder.
- Water before bedtime: Lots of water right before you sleep will make you wake up and spoil your sleep cycle and also urinate more frequently. Many people hold the urine for the entire night and only go to the loo in the morning. This is also equally bad for your bladder health.
- Don't consume excess of caffeine and alcohol: If you have a bladder issue, you need to quit alcohol and also reduce the consumption of caffeine until you're better.
- Manage constipation: If you feel constipated every time you put pressure on your stool, you are really putting more pressure on your bladder which will weaken the muscles. You can cure constipation by making healthy life choices and diet alterations too.
