As a woman in India, you'll be all too familiar with the concept of holding back. Sure feminism has finally raised its head and people are becoming more aware of womens rights, but ever since childhood women are conditioned into being submissive. So, even when they think things are wrong, they hold back and don't speak up. A famous beauty brand has now conducted a survey to figure out how these inhibitions affect women and what can be done to get rid of these inhibitions.
Since women are conditioned into holding back, they end up curtailing their growth personally and professionally. The brand wanted to ensure that this no longer is an issue for women. They wanted to encourage women to go out and get what they want without worrying about it.
Why women hold back: As per their research, 9 out of 10 Indian women hold themselves back from saying or doing something. They do this mainly because of three factors - fear of being judged (59%), fear of not knowing how the other person will react (58%) and fear of how what they say might negatively impact their image (52%). At work, 8 in 10 women hold themselves back while on a personal front around 4 in 10 women do.
They also found a number of other reasons why women feel the need to hold back. These include, afraid of being told something awful, afraid of being unable to manage a stressful situation, wondering whether what they're saying is useful and even just general feelings of stress and self-doubt. It was also found that holding back could affect these women's personality traits by making them feel less confident, more frustrated and more annoyed.
What was most important was that they found that women who acted seemed to be a lot happier than women who held back. Around 6 in 10 women reported feeling satisfied while another 6 in 10 women reported feeling happier. So, this proves that all you women need to do is speak your mind and you'll be able to get rid of those inhibitions. Stay tuned for more updates.
