Running short of breath, sweating and feeling your chest getting tighter by every second is all experienced due to panic attack, not a heart attack
Mar 18, 2019, 11:57 ISTResearchers say that almost 1/4th of the crowd rushes to the emergency room when they experience a chest pain mistaking it to be a heart attack, while they are rather having a panic disorder. It is true that you need to be extra concerned when it comes to your heart. But you should also educate yourself on whether your chest pain is caused due to stress and anxiety or an actual heart attack. Running short of breath, sweating and feeling your chest getting tighter by every second is all experienced due to panic attack, not a heart attack.
A chest pain that is caused due to stress and anxiety makes you feel nervous, uneasy, stabbing pain, burning sensation, chest tightness, numbness in the chest area and a few other symptoms. When we get anxious, our body prepares us for the danger by activating stress response. One of the many changes that the body makes, it tightens of the muscles in the chest and the rib cage in order to protect itself. The muscles contract as much as we feel anxious. This is why we experience chest pain.
On such times, practicing deep breathing which includes 10 counts of inhaling and exhaling will calm your body as it paces down the heart rate. Talking to yourself and coming in terms with the anxiety can also relieve stress. If the pain persists, visiting a therapist or a doctor is highly suggested.
