Recently the whole country was shocked seeing the ex-Bond, Pierce Brosnan endorsing Pan Bahar Pan Masala, and soon the internet was flooded with memes. However, the question that remained unanswered was why would Pierce Brosnan endorse products that can cause cancer.
In an interview with People magazine, Pierce Brosnan clarified his stand saying that he was deeply shocked and saddened by the unauthorised and deceptive use of his image. Brosnan added that he agreed to advertise a single product only and that it was presented as “all-natural containing neither tobacco, supari, nor any other harmful ingredient. The actor has since demanded that the company remove his image from all their products.
According to his contract, Brosnan was to advertise a “breath freshener and tooth whitener” which wouldn’t include an ingredient that turns saliva red. Brosnan released a statement which said, “Having endured, in my own personal life, the loss of my first wife and daughter as well as numerous friends to cancer, I am fully committed to supporting women’s health care and research programs that improve human health and alleviate suffering.” He further added “I have greatest love and affection for India and its people. I would never have entered into an agreement to promote a product in India that is dangerous to one’s health.”
Since the statement was released by Pierce Brosnan on late Thursday evening, Pan Bahar could not be reached for a statement.
