Cheese omelettes is the kind of breakfast that makes your day a whole lot better than it already might be. But we're going to burst your bubble and say that it is not all that great if you want a healthier heart. Turns out, consuming more eggs and dietary cholesterol might add to the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) or even death, said by researchers.
Egg yolks contain a good amount of dietary cholesterol and one large egg has almost 186 milligrams of dietary cholesterol in the yolk. Sounds scary already, right?
An Associate Professor at the Northwestern University, Norrina Allen said, The take-home message is really about cholesterol, which happens to be high in eggs and specifically yolks. As part of a healthy diet, people need to consume lower amounts of cholesterol. People who consume less cholesterol have a lower risk of heart disease."
Eating 300 mg of dietary cholesterol each day increases the risk of incident cardiovascular disease by 17% and any cause death by 18%. Consuming 3-4 eggs in a week gave out 6% higher risk of CVD and 8% of any cause of death. Red meat, processed meat and high-fat dairy products are other animal products which are also associated with high cholesterol content.
