While body odour may be a nasty business that you have to deal with, that’s not the only one. Its sister concern, smelly scalp and hair is another issue you can’t afford to ignore and the bad news is it’s even worse to get rid of. And while you might still somehow be able to make things work, everything becomes even worse if you sweat too much. Washing your hair can come to your rescue but you can't always be doing that. So, here are some home remedies that will help improve things for your scalp and hair.
02/13Garlic Oil
Garlic contains antibacterial and antifungal properties that can help get rid of bacteria that cause your scalp to smell. Take 4-5 garlic cloves and crush them. Add 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and heat the mixture for a bit. Strain the mixture in a bowl so that only the oil remains and then apply this oil to your hair and scalp. Leave it on for a good 30 minutes before rinsing.
03/13Grapefruit seed extract
You'll get this product in any haircare store. Just remember not to use it directly on your scalp. Mix a few drops with your shampoo and then apply the mixture to your hair and scalp while massaging well. Once done, rinse your hair and you'll notice the difference in no time.
04/13Onion juice
Onion juice also contains sulphur content which helps to fight against bacteria that leads to smelly hair due to oily scalp. It also prevents baldness and promotes hair growth.
Blend an onion to extract its juice. Apply the juice on the scalp and massage it gently. Let it rest for 30 minutes and wash it off with shampoo. You can repeat it 1-2 times a week
05/13Aloe Vera gel
Aloe vera is effective in treating smelly hair which is caused due to oily scalp and dandruff. It contains a lot of healing properties which acts as an amazing conditioner. After shampooing your hair, apply aloe vera gel on the scalp and hair. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes and wash it off with normal water. You can repeat the process once a week.
06/13Tomato Juice
Tomatoes contain antibacterial properties that can work wonders in getting rid of the odour caused by your scalp. Take one big tomato and squeeze the pulp out from it. Apply this pulp to your scalp directly. Leave it on your scalp for 20-30 minutes before rinsing it off.
07/13Baking Soda
Take one tablespoon of baking soda and add it to ½ a cup of water. Mix these two well. Rinse your hair with a mild cleanser and then give your hair one final rinse with this baking soda solution. Rinse your hair with water afterwards. Baking soda also contains antibacterial properties that can combat odour.
08/13Avoid using conditioner on scalp
Most people are not aware of the fact that conditioner is only meant for the mid-lengths and ends of your hair. If you apply conditioner to your scalp, it can leave your scalp feeling greasy and oily and can even cause bacteria to multiply rapidly. This can lead to a foul odour from your scalp too.
09/13Garlic oil
You will need 4-5 garlic cloves and 2 tablespoon of coconut oil for this. Crush the garlic cloves. Heat the crushed cloves with two tablespoons of coconut oil for a few minutes. Strain the mixture to extract all the oil out of it. Apply the mixture to your scalp and a little to your hair. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes before rinsing it off with a mild cleanser and water.
10/13Tea tree oil
The next time you oil your hair, switch your regular oil with almond oil or jojoba oil and mix a few drops of tea tree oil in it. 6 drops of tea tree oil for 1-2 tablespoon of the carrier oil you choose.
