It's no secret that after going for a workout session, you're bound to feel really hungry. But have you noticed how you're probably unable to make healthy eating choices after you're done working out? There's a reason behind it. It turns out that when you're hungry you tend to choose something more satiating and satisfying to eat. A recent study was conducted on this which found that what kind of food you choose to eat post your workout may actually depend on how early you decide what snack you're going to be eating.
“We found that there was very little research on this very tangible thing that I think everyone can relate to,” said Dr. Karston Koehler. The researchers divided some participants into two groups. Both were asked to do some workout exercises. While one group was given the option of choosing their snack before the workout (options were apples and brownies), the other group wasn't given this option until after the workout.
They found that 74 percent of the people from the group that was given an option beforehand, chose to eat apples. And around 14 percent chose to have the brownie. For the post-workout group, while 55 percent of the people chose to have a healthy snack, around 20 percent people chose to have brownies. “If your goal is to lose weight, then I would say our findings support that you’re better off making the choice … not when you’re hungry after your workout, but instead before you go to the gym,” the researchers said.
Well, this certainly proves that you need to make up your mind about your snack before you go for your workout session. Stay tuned for more updates.
