Listen, periods can be painful and we all know how much we hate that one particular week of the month. From cramps to mood swings, it is not at all fun. And we almost forgot about the numerous visits to the bathroom and constantly being conscious about spotting on clothes. We can go on and on still our ranting session about periods won’t stop! Apart from the already existing issues of the time of the month, there are certain things that we do to our body which in return makes our condition worse. We are talking about the happy juice! Unfortunately, it can impact women during their cycle. Down below will explain each one for you so that you can lay off your drinking habit for the week.

Alcohol in your body can temporarily increase hormonal levels. Later, this can change your menstrual cycle. This is one of the reasons why you sometimes miss your periods or cause unexpected periods.

Drinking causes dehydration which in return tends to result in extra prolonged cramps. Do yourself a favour and don’t drink at night to avoid waking up with painful sores.

Along with awful cramps, one might experience breast tenderness, flashes, headaches, sudden food craving and most importantly, mood fluctuations due to the consumption of alcohol. Not to forget, alcohol alone increases estrogen levels and makes you emotionally sensitive.

The fluctuation of magnesium levels is quite a normal thing during periods. It’s not harmful. But coupled with alcohol, it can create depletion of the nutrient. You may experience low blood sugar levels, mood swings, dizziness, and fatigue. Your body is already vulnerable during the menstrual week, do it a favour and don’t drink!
