‘Tumhari Sulu’ actress has never failed to express her opinions and has never shied away in putting her views out in the open. At an event, Vidya spoke about the ongoing debate over playing the National Anthem before the films.
The actress said, "I don’t think the National Anthem should be played before the films. You are not in school where you start the day with the National Anthem. So I’m personally of the opinion that the National Anthem should not be played. You cannot force patriotism. But I don’t need to be told. When I hear the National Anthem, I stand up wherever I am."
Vidya, is prepping for ‘Tumhari Sulu’, was also in headlines after she was selected as the member of the Central Board of Film Certification, she said, "The entire film industry was feeling a certain way with the previous censor board. And then, when I was asked whether I’d be able to be on the censor board, I thought this as an opportunity to bring about change."
"So, unless I agree to be part of that change or at least attempt to be part of it, I can’t criticise it anymore. Which is why I said ‘ok’. I don’t want to give it a particular tag and say ‘Sanskari, Un-sanskari, forward," Balan also added.
Vidya signed off saying, "Once the CBFC has cleared the film, it should be allowed to be seen the way it has been cleared. If there are any issues, they should have been brought up before".
