Sanjay Dutt's conviction in 1993 Bombay serial blast case left the actor and his family rather devastated as he was sentenced to five years in prison for possession of arms. However, Dutt's family and close friends stood by the actor like a pillar during this time of turmoil.
Talking about his jail term, Sanjay opened up to a leading tabloid about one of the most difficult time in his life. He said, "I missed the film industry during my years in jail. Even when I was out, with the case still on, I wasn't really free. Freedom is something we often take for granted till we lose it."
Admitting that there is a sense of peace in him now, Sanjay gives the credit to his wife Maanayata for playing an important role in his life. "She's a wife, a friend and a mother, someone who has her head on her shoulders and the right values. After my parents, she's been my pillar of strength, given me a home and beautiful kids. I'm lucky to be married to her, she is a wonderful wife," asserts the actor.
When Sanjay sees Maanayata with son Shahraan together he his reminded of the time he spent with his mother Nargis Dutt. Sanjay adds, "Every son has a special connect with his mother. Today, when I see Maanayata and Shahraan, who is the apple of her eye, I'm reminded of Nargis and Sanjay."
