Basking in the glory of 'Sultan', Salman Khan now has plans to take ahead his production company. The star is on a lookout for scripts to produce under the Salman Khan Films banner. The actor who is busy shooting for his next, ‘Tubelight’, is also producing the film under the SKF banner. While the film is yet to release, Salman has already announced his next production venture, ‘Lions Of The Sea’ starring Irrfan Khan in the lead.
The film is based on the Komagata Maru case which involved the Japanese steamship that carried 340 Sikhs, 24 Muslims, and 12 Hindus who were all subjects of the British Raj, and tried to immigrate to Canada. The incident though dates back to the year 1914, the producers believe it will garner a lot of attention because of its subject. And it is not only Salman who plans to make a film on the Komagata Maru incident, John Abraham’s production house too had earlier announced a film on the similar lines. John’s production house announced the film back in 2006, but nothing of it has been finalised as yet.
SKF’s Chief Operating Officer, Amar Butala confirmed the news saying, “It’s a powerful human story of struggle and triumph in which Irrfan will play a Sikh named Gurdit Singh. The story of those Sardars, Muslims and Hindus is relevant even today as we hear and read about the refugee crisis and racial profiling constantly. We have begun work on the pre-production and will announce the director and the rest of the cast in the next few days.”
Well, it remains to be seen if it will be a repeat of the Bhagat Singh incident of 2002, where three films on the same subject released- one starring Ajay Devgn, other starring Bobby Doel, and a third starring Sonu Sood.
