The famous RK studio, founded by legendary superstar Raj Kapoor in suburban Chembur has been reduced to ruins after a huge fire broke out on the sets of the dance reality show ‘Super Dancer’, built inside the iconic studio. Six fire tenders and five water tankers were immediately rushed to the site to curb the fire, however, most o the damage was already done. Luckily, no shoots were scheduled at the time of the fire and no casualties were reported.
"The show is shot at R K Studio, but there was no shoot planned for today as the channel had already shot a couple of episodes. The next shoot is planned for the first week of October. We are hopeful that we will be able to make amends by that time and get the set ready. The show to be aired on Sony Entertainment Television will go on the floor by September 30," revealed a source. He added, “The blaze was brought under control by evening. The cooling operations are still on. There is no report of anyone suffering injury in the fire so far.”
When asked about the losses, Rishi said, "There were costumes from every RK film, from ‘Awaara’ to ‘Chalen’. Most of the stuff was kept neatly in trunks and some of it was even labelled. The costumes worn by every RK heroine, from Nargis to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is lost. The jewellery worn by Padmini in ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai’ was also stored here with a lot of love. There were spears, sabres, artefacts, furniture and other regalia used for the various shoots. The ‘Mera Naam Joker’ mask and clothes... Dabboo and I couldn't believe what hit us. This is probably why they say that one should never put all eggs in one basket. But for us, this was our father's legacy, and it was a treasure trove."
Expressing deep grief at the loss of the irreplaceable memorabilia, Raj Kapoor’s son Rishi Kapoor and other Bollywood celebs tweeted:
The iconic studio was founded in 1948.
