Australia-based Reena Mehta may be a doctor-scientist by profession, but her passion has always been music. Not surprising, considering the fact that her parents were trained in classical music. Close family friends, too, were part of Bollywood’s music industry — they included the eminent lyricist, late Shri Hasrat Jaipuri, and a few music directors.
Reena took her first steps in India’s music industry after she sang for the album, 'Marhum' (2017), whose title song by the same name was dedicated to the Indian Army. “Thereafter, I got an opportunity to sing for films with leading playback singers, like Suresh Wadkarji, Nakash Aziz and Shahid Mallya,” she says, adding, “During one of the recording sessions, composer Umesh Mishraji expressed his interest in making a series of Ghazal albums with me. The first in the series, Bhool Na Paoge, gave me a chance to work with Padma Shri Anup Jalotaji. All the songs in the album, except the title track, was recently released by Zee Music. The title song will be released on July 2. Its lyrics were penned by Umesh Mishra.”
The album features six ghazals, each based on a romantic theme — Love (Chalo Dil Kisi se), Attraction ( Muskurate Ho Kyu), Relationship ( Raat Rangeen Hui), Heartbreak( Bahut Udaas Hu Mai), Separation( Na Mai Yaad Tumko Karu) and Solitude( Bhool Na Paoge).
Reena is now excited about her upcoming singles — 'Kesariya', a Sufi fusion number and 'O Baby Aaa', a party dance number with Aamir Sheikh. She is also upbeat about her album 'Marhum 2', in which she has worked with playback singers Dev Negi and Aman Trikha. Interestingly, the album includes a song, which was gifted to Reena on her birthday by Shri Hasrat Jaipuri.
About her new album, she says, “Each song in this album is very close to my heart. I hope people receive it with as much love as the entire team made it with.”
